Pavan Tanay Sankat Haran | | O! Son of the wind, destroyer of all miseries |

This first sentence starts with naming Hanumanji dear to Pavan (the wind god)
Pavan = is known to be the wind god, the godfather of Maruti, Hanuman.
Tanay = translates to 'dear one' and 'son'.
The last two words combined say that Hanumanji is the one that will destroy and take away every crisis.
Sankat = crisis
Haran = Haran has multiple meanings such as kidnaping, destroying, taking away, removing, seizing. In this context it is translated from the Sanskrit meaning and so translates to destroying and taking away.
Mangal Moorati Roop || | You are a symbol of fortune |
---|
Mangal
Mangal is know to have a few metaphoric meanings in devanagri, hindi and Sanskrit. Mangal is known to be the planet Mars. In astrology if your planet Mangal is good, you will have a lot of fortune and succes. It is an auspicious sign to have a good Mangal position in your horoscope. If it is bad, it is associated with a lot of impulsiveness, challenges and hardships in a persons life. A well known Mangal dosha is that for a person that is called Manglik, more about that in our other articles.
Murti
Murti is daily used as the word for a statue. Here it refers to a positive image that resembles a form of a deity (Hanuman) in Sanatan Dharma.
Roop
Roop means a form or shape.
Combining these 3 words of this sentence it explains that (the form of) Hanumanji resembles the auspiciousness of Mangal.
Ram Lakhan Sita Sahit | | Together with Rama, Lakshmana and Sita |
---|
Sahit means together; with Ram, Lakhan Sita
Hriday Basahu Sur Bhoop || | May you settle in our heart as a tune on earth (with this hymn) |
---|
Hriday means heart. Basahu means settling in a place. Sur stands for a tune. Bhoop is earth.
With the last two shukla's we express a feeling that the glory of Hanuman(with Rama, Lakhan and Sita) will forever be in our hearts while we praise him through this Hanuman Chalisa Hymn.
