In this new season we see a lot of new characters making an entry to the games. The makers of Squid Game did a great job in creating engagement and compassion for every character in such short time. 

A great character was player 120. She was presented so beautiful. The background story, the future plans of this player and the role she took after the 'Special Game' it was nicely done. I will not give a spoiler but the actor did a great job. A very interesting character was also the shaman player 044. Her number as a player is also astrologically out for disaster (If you know, you know). Her character was also engaging with the other players, especially with player 120 during the second game. That was just must needed comedy to make this serie also light hearted. 

The state player 222 was in and still participating in the games was remarkable. You would think the REEL creators would not let her participate. This is just sadistic to a next level. I mean, they must have known right? The mother and son duo was also good to watch. It shows compassion between family. Player 149 became a mother figure for a lot of players in the game. Giving them comfort when needed. She is also very relatable with her drama to the soldiers and love for her son. We can see she has more in her 'hair', then you think. I think we will see more of her. 

All the characters had their unique story. Thanos (player 230) was the most fun to watch on screen. His presence was there from the first game on. He served the international audience watching worldwide. Till the end of the season you could not make sure if his character would have a twist in initial behaviour or not. Was he a good guy or bad guy? Or just a guy pressured to be bad in a conflicted situation. His character had so much potential till the end of the season. There should be a petition to resurrect him out of his state and give him more screen time! 

In Squid Game season 1 the old man (player 001) turned out to be the creator of the games for himself and the VIP's, he participated because he would eventually die of a brain tumor and loved those old school games and wanted to play them again. Player 456 had a great bond with this player and was devastated when he died (but he turned out to be alive). In this season the creators do something similar, yet it is still really thrilling to watch (I don't want to give a spoiler). They say money does not make you smart, I believe that considering the trust player 456 has for this number, yet again, and the failed plans he made in those 3 years. 

There are more members of the cast playing the characters with a significant presence. We could not name them all. Source of the cast information is Netflix and IMDB. 

The games of the seasons

Squid games by NETFLIX made a big buzz worldwide introducing childhood games to the audiences and creating nostalgia for the viewers. In season 2 they carry on their legacy and introduce 6 more games that refresh our childhood memories. For me the games bring me back to my cousins in Surinam where we played these games together on the fields and in the yard when it was actually siesta time. These times were the best times and the squid games bring those memories back.

In season 2 of Squid Games they bundled a set of 5 mini games into the 6 leg pentathlon. It showed camaraderie between the players and with the background music it was actually fun to watch. Red Light, Green Light is back and this time we can see a choreographed approach to this game. The makers really gave the viewers what they were expecting, and that was more new (old) games.  For the Squid Game itself the contract concluded a condition in favour of the players, that on its own can be seen as a democratic game. The special game also resonates with the new age gamers, so all the viewers get to see at least one game they will appreciate.

Side story to squid game

This season of Squid Game has a few side stories going on like the undercover detective searching for his brother. Another is the organ harvest that is back. It is less engaging as the actual plot of the series and is not that interesting. The other side story is of one of the soldiers and the connection to a player in the game. It will be interesting to see that part unfold.

The Squid Game series is known to go in history as a cult classic. The concept of the show was new in it's first season and the creators knew what the viewers wanted in the second season. More Games! We got more games and also new characters with a lot of backstory. Of course the story has a few flaws, which you can look over. I mean player 456 had approximately 2 years to make different kind of plans with scenarios that could have happend. His best plans at the moment were the worst he could imagine. The story in season 2 had a slow start and you sometimes forget that there are a few side stories. Yet the creators stayed close to the concept of playing the games to survive. 

It has 4,5 out of 5 stars because it is an exceptional work of art. Season 2 did end on a weird note it does not feel complete. It looked more like a season break with the cliffhanger than the end of a season. They could have added at least 3 episodes extra, now it feels incomplete. But the makers have good news. The last season of Squid Game will be out in 2025 on Netflix!
